Where do we find changing landforms - Where is Australia positioned on the plate? - Land events/forms
Australia is a land with many land forms and events. It has some of the oldest landforms and features in the world. The landforms of today are the result of a continuous process of weathering and erosion, taken place over, millions of years.
However Australia's shape was majorly defined from tectonic plates, thus meaning weathering and erosion are the secondary source of creation. These formations were created as Australia moved over a volcanic hotspot. Faulting and folding in Australia happened millions of years ago. In the early section of the Cretaceous period, Australia was still flat, thus fault and folding, making a major rise in the sea level. This created three landmasses, making a shallow layer of water spread over the land; oceans.
