The Indo-Australian plate always moves in a north easterly (right) direction. However as it does this, it collides with the western side of its neighbouring plate; the Philippine Plate. This collision than pushes the ocean floor up, striving above sea level. This creates island chains, island arcs, and a mountainous sea floor .
